about

Handle With Care is a personal tale of my journey as a queer black caribbean womxn living in the NYC. Coming to terms with unsettling truths about the emotional abusive nature of my Jamaican upbringing and the normalization of domestic violence as it transfers generation to generation without being challenged. As it is deeply embedded in the fabric of Caribbean culture, from the ripple effect of colonialism.

My second EP acts as the next chapter in my work to highlight the experiences of queer black womxn who may or may not bare Caribbean ancestry, but who can relate to the trauma that black womxn have to endure, and the erasure that is implemented from birth. Aiming to express the frustrations of escaping one hostile environment, only to enter another hostile environment in a place very far from my homeland, the first single "Bag Juice" employs my native patois to personify the aggressive sonics permeating this release: a marriage of rave and techno fed through distortion. Alongside field-recorded conversations pulled from my own confrontations with adversity, “Handle With Care” offers a sonic representation of several harsh realities queer black womxn face outside of and within the black community. These compositions tell a very personal account of my experiences growing up in a home where love was not served and neglect was an unfortunate part of my childhood. Overall it explores the will to survive and endure trauma, emotional abuse, homophobia, colorism, and classism and aims to take the listener on a journey of the queer black womxn experience.
